TOKYO, Japan (CNN) -- A serial killer convicted in the deaths of four girls was among three men executed in Japan on Tuesday.
Tsutomu Miyazaki, seen in August 1989, attends a police investigation of his serial killing of girls in Tokyo.
Justice Minister Kunio Hatoyama announced the executions at a news conference, saying he ordered them three days ago.
Tsutomu Miyazaki, 45, was convicted of murdering 4 girls and eating some of the bodies. The killings took place in 1988 and 1989.
Japan's Supreme Court finalized the death sentence in February 2007, saying Miyazaki abducted and killed the girls in Tokyo and a neighboring area "to satisfy his own sexual desire and appetite to own videotapes with footage of corpses," Japan's Kyodo news agency reported.
Hatoyama has overseen the execution of 13 convicted criminals since becoming justice
